Mini Tummy Tuck (Modified Abdominoplasty)
With the increased popularity of displaying the midriff area with belly button rings, tank tops and the traditional bikinis, a sexy stomach has become more important. The Standard Tummy Tuck, also called a Full Abdominoplasty, is used to remove excess stretched and wrinkled skin and fatty tissue present
above as well as below the belly button in order to obtain a smoother, flatter stomach; this condition is usually a consequence of multiple pregnancies or severe weight loss.
When the skin looseness appears only
below the belly button, the excess skin can be removed without touching the belly button and therefore avoids a visible scar at that level. This procedure is considered a
mini tuck or
limited or modified abdominoplasty where the only incision is hidden below the bikini line. The abdominal muscles can sometimes be tightened and Liposuction is often combined with this procedure to achieve a more sculpted look.
During the surgery, an incision is made across the lower part of the abdomen, within the pantie line. The sagging skin is lifted toward the navel. After pulling the skin back down, the surgeon then removes the excess skin and sutures the incision precisely.
After the surgery, we recommend that you refrain from any strenuous activity for approximately four to six weeks. You will also be advised to wear an abdominal support for 4 weeks. You will feel some soreness; however, our doctors will prescribe adequate pain medication to ease the discomfort.
The decision to undergo a mini, modified or full tummy tuck should be done with a full understanding of the limitations and benefits of each procedure after a full consultation with our surgeons.
Drs. Virginia Ward & Christian Drehsen have performed hundreds of Mini Tucks procedures in their AAASF accredited surgical facility in Clearwater, Florida. You can see many examples of their surgical expertise in our before and after photograph gallery.
