Fractional Resurfacing

The Palomar LUX 1540, the "newest Fraxel Technology".
A revolutionary treatment! Non-ablative skin resurfacing with high effectiveness & no downtime. Significantly reduces wrinkles and acne scarring.

The latest in skin rejuvenation, the fractional resurfacing laser treats fine lines, wrinkles, and skin imperfections such as acne scars and brown spots. The fractional laser produces tiny microthermal treatment zones, penetrating deep into the dermis and leaving the surrounding skin unaffected and intact. This fractional treatment allows the skin to heal much faster using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy, tighter tissue. Clinical studies suggest a treatment regimen of 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart for optimum results.

How does Fractional Resurfacing work?

The Fractional laser treatment produces thousands of tiny microtears in the skin which then allows generation of new collagen cells. The result creates a more youthful and vibrant appearance to the skin, erasing skin imperfections.

What skin conditions can Fractional Resurfacing treat?

Fractional laser treatment is designed to treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and pigmented lesions (i.e. melasma) on the face and body.

How is Fractional Laser Resurfacing different than other lasers?

Until Fractional Laser Resurfacing, there were only 2 types of laser treatments, ablative and non-ablative. Ablative laser treatments, which uses vapor at a very high temperature, are very effective but have significant side effects and require a lengthy healing time. The non-ablative laser treatment has little or no side effects and almost no healing time, but requires numerous treatments over many months with limited results at best. The Fractional Laser treatment offers the effectiveness of ablative treatments with the benefits of gentler, non-ablative lasers.

How many treatments will it take to see improvements?

Clinical studies suggest on average, 3-5 treatments at intervals of every 2-4 weeks are needed for most patients, however depending on one's condition or severity more treatments may be necessary. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 to 3 months. This time allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen and healthy skin cell growth.

What can I expect to see immediately following my treatment?

You will experience swelling and a mild sunburn sensation for about 1-2 hours following the treatment. For the first 2-3 days following the treatment the skin will be remain slightly swollen and red. Your skin will then appear bronze for 3 to 14 days depending on your treatment level. Your skin will naturally exfoliate as new skin replaces dead tissue. Therefore, flaking and peeling will occur for approximately 4-7 days. Use of a moisturizer will mask the appearance of flaking. Be sure to use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30-plus at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during both the healing process and for several months after treatment.

You may apply mineral based makeup after treatment. Some patients are able to return to routine activities, including work and social obligations the same day of treatment. Others require a little more time, depending upon their skin condition and the level of treatment.
