Dermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure in which various layers of the skin are mechanically abraded.
In the Clinique, dermabrasion is performed with a nylon brush rotating at a high speed. This brush literally sands the skin to a variable depth to achieve a smoother surface.

This flexibility of being able to sand at different levels allows feathering of the abraded area and creates an imperceptible transition.
Co2 lasers, while effective in smoothing skin, have shown to be less flexible and have unfortunately produced permanent depigmentation in up to 40% of cases, leading to the marked decrease in popularity of that modality.

Dermabrasion remains a tool of choice to level scars, pitting, deep upper lip wrinkles, etc...
Recovery is relatively short.
It takes approximately a week for the skin to regress over the sanded area and five to six weeks for the redness to fade away.
Camouflage cosmetics can be used to help during the recovery process.
